Choosing the right ukulele for you is important - the more you like (or even love your ukulele) the more motivated you will be to want to play it. There are many ukulele's to choose from.  They can be made from a variety of materials natural/man made and come in different sizes (soprano/small concert/medium tenor/large). Makala Starter Ukuleles:

MAKALA ukuleles are made out of agathis instead of mahogany. Agathis is a wood looks similar to mahogany in appearance and has a wonderful bright tone. All of these ukes have brass frets, a rosewood fingerboard, and good geared tuning keys.

Soprano - Red Dolphin ukulele

Many beginners start out with this ukulele before venturing on to more expensive ukuleles.  It's small, portable, and comes in a lovely glossy finish. It's a bona-fide instrument and sounds sweet.  (Agathis top, sides back man made)

Concert ukulele MK-C

Concert size ukes are popular because they have a fuller sound than soprano ukuleles. The neck is slightly wider and has a longer neck. I play this ukulele and think it sounds just as good as other ukes that are double the cost.

Ukulele tuner

Tune your ukulele easily in under 20 seconds. Kala tuners sit on the top of the ukulele headstock. They measure the vibrations of each string as you pluck it, indicating if the sound is too flat or sharp - adjust the tuning head (up/down) until the chord is clearly displayed e.g. A C E G
